End this': Married At First Sight fans turn on controversial dating show after 'disgusting' final task encouraged 'cheating' | Sky News Australia

Married At First Sight fans have turned on the controversial dating show after the “disgusting” final task got underway on Monday evening.

The task, entitled ‘Is the Grass Greener on the Other Side?’, saw the brides and grooms presented with an envelope giving them the option of remaining committed to their current on-screen spouses or meeting an entirely new “backup” match hand-picked for them by the MAFS experts.

Each couple was separated in the early hours of the morning to decide whether or not to meet their new suitor without first consulting their on-screen spouses or knowing what the other person would choose.

“This will give you the chance to really evaluate how deep the connection is your relationship and hopefully help answer the question…is the grass greener on the other side,” the task read.

Viewers flooded social media with their reactions, with one person saying: “Just the way they’ve worded this task is disgusting.”

“Everything about this s*** show is designed to ensure relationships don’t work. No wonder the experts are confused that couples like Jeff and Rhi make it through,” they said.

“I don’t agree with the producers of the show putting temptation in front of the participants… they have just had final commitment ceremony… TV for TV’s sake, let them go to final vows,” another person said.

Controversial season five groom Nasser Sultan took to Instagram to say the Nine Network “keep milking and milking” drama “for ratings” rather than making any genuine attempt to help participants find love.

It comes during the pivotal final week, before couples separate and decide whether to stay committed to each other at final vows.

Chaos ensued between one of the strongest couples Paul Antoine, 30, and Carina Mirabale, 31, after Paul decided to meet his “backup” match Hannah Dawson and instantly regretted his decision.

The 32-year-old grilled the Frenchmen about why he agreed to meet her at a bar despite appearing head over heels for Carina.

Paul told her living with Carina for the past three months had been a “breeze” and that “we’ve been very happy and fulfilled.”

However, Hannah was not convinced and said Paul wouldn’t have agreed to take on the task if he was truly happy in his relationship.

“So, if you’re so happy, why are you here?” she asked.

Unbeknownst to Carina, who was back at their apartment and had not agreed to the task, Paul was adamant that he was just “curious” to discover his mysterious new match and was not looking for someone else.

Nevertheless, Carina immediately felt betrayed when Paul told her about his “curiosity” and essentially considered he was emotionally cheating on her, resulting in an explosive feud.

“I’m disgusted, I’m embarrassed. There’s no going past this like you did not consider how I was going to feel again,” she said.

It comes after Carina previously said she was anxious after Paul punched a hole in the wall of their apartment and said he thought she could be “very judgey” and a “snob”.

Carina said his agreeing to the final task was the “last straw” in their relationship, and she was “done” with him.

“You were just thinking about yourself; go and do that in the real world…you think about doing that with another woman, then you’re going to f****** cheat,” she said before storming out and leaving Paul in their living room

Viewers further attacked the show in response, with one person calling for the Nine and production company Endemol Shine Australia to “just end this debacle.”

“The grass is not always greener,” another person said.

“Wow, really, Paul…Carina, you should have run after the bedroom incident, then when he threw you under the bus for betraying your trust, and now this… seriously, Carina, run… run as far as you can, darling,” one more person said.

Also during Monday evening’s episode, Beth Kelly agreed to meet with Irish personal trainer Oisin Scully from Sydney, who was set to join the experiment as an original cast member.

While she did not have a spark with the gym junkie, her on-screen spouse Teejay Halkias had the opposite experience with his new suitor, fiery Sydney redhead Tara-Lee Preston.

Teejay and Tara-Lee, who is a sales consultant from Sydney, got along effortlessly.

A source told Daily Mail Australia he had a stronger connection with Tara-Lee in one day than with Beth in weeks and soaked up his newfound romance.

Paul Antoine, Adrian Araouzou, Ryan Donnelly, and Teejay Halkias all surrendered to the task and met their new matches, thus failing the task in the eyes of the experts.

Jamie Marinos, Awhina Rutene, Jacqueline Burfoot, and Beth Kelly also agreed to meet their new suitors.

Dave Hand, Carina Mirable, Jeff Gobbels, and Rhi Disljenkovic were the only participants who remained committed to their current spouses.
