Hugh Jackman, 56, and Deborra-Lee Furness, 69, surprised fans when they announced their split in 2023, promising to part ways with “gratitude, love and kindness”. However, it doesn’t seem as though they’ve followed through with that, as their divorce takes a bitter turn for the worst.

The pair were together for 27 years before their split and have kept their distance since sharing the sad announcement. Earlier this year, Hugh went public with his new romance with Younger actress Sutton Foster, 50.

It was believed that Hugh and Deborra-Lee were only a matter of weeks away from filing for divorce in January (the same month he and Sutton went public), but two months later, they haven’t made any progress.

According to Daily Mail, Deborra-Lee believes she is “entitled” to more money, but Hugh is refusing.

“Hugh and Deborra-Lee have not yet filed for divorce because they are struggling to reach an agreement on how to divide their assets,” a source said. “Deborra-Lee feels entitled to more money than Hugh is willing to offer.”

The publication claims Deborra-Lee’s insistence on getting more money is perhaps fuelled by the “murky origins” of his romance with Sutton.

“While he didn’t physically cheat on her with Sutton, Deborra-Lee believes they were having an emotional affair and she feels he betrayed her,” the insider adds.

Hugh and Sutton have been friends for many years, but began working together in the 2022 Broadway revival of The Music Man.

Sutton filed for divorce from her husband, Ted Griffin, last year, before rumours began swirling that she and Hugh were an item.

Photos of Hugh and Sutton kissing were released in January, confirming the new relationship.

“With a significant amount of money at stake, Deborra-Lee is determined to get what she believes she deserves from the separation,” the source shares. “She is using the fact that Hugh is still married and involved with another woman against him.”

Hugh is believed to have amassed a fortune of around $200m thanks to his role as Wolverine in several films.

He and Deborra-Lee also own several properties, including a $3.5m 2.5 acre property in East Hampton, New York, a $5.9m Bondi Beach house in Sydney, and a $21m penthouse in Manhattan, which they bought a year before the split. They also listed a five-bedroom ‘triplex’ for $38.9m in 2022 and it’s unclear whether it sold.

Hugh and Deborra-Lee are parents to Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that they never signed a prenup before getting married, with a source telling Daily Mail that at the time “they thought it would be forever” and neither of them could have predicted Hugh’s career would blow up the way it has.

“Because there was no prenup, and he made a fortune during their marriage, this divorce is not going to be cut and dry. It may even get messy because the stakes are high,” the source said.

The division of assets isn’t helped by the fact that the pair are “no longer friends”.
