Eddie McGuire has broken his silence on a Who Wants to be a Millionaire? reboot.
The veteran presenter, who hosted the Channel Nine game show throughout its run from 1999 – 2023, thinks it’s ripe for a comeback with a fresh new host.
‘I just hope if it comes back it’s done well. It might be Sam Pang… Who knows? I always said it was a hiatus, not the end,’ Eddie told the Herald Sun.
Eddie said the veteran comedian was ideal for the role because the show presenter needed to be an enthusiastic person who could joke around with contestants.
‘The host gets to play around, so I hope whoever gets it will have great fun,’ he said.
He added the enormous success of the 2008 movie Slumdog Millionaire was proof that audiences around the world loved the show’s format.

‘It’s one of the most successful television shows around the world and spawned an Academy Award winning movie. It’s such a joyous show,’ he said.
While there have been rumours for some time about the popular game show making a comeback, nothing has been confirmed.
In 2023, the long-running game show, which was renamed Millionaire Hot Seat, was axed.
The series gave away millions over the years to Aussies competing on the show.
‘It’s with great pride and joy and also sadness I announce this morning Millionaire Hot Seat will go into hiatus at the end of January,’ Eddie said on 3AW.
‘There will be a replacement show at 5pm on the Nine Network after we will hit our 25th anniversary as we go into 2024.’
‘I love the fact so many people would come and say, “I sat there with my grandparents and we did these things together [watched the show]”.’
‘There were four millionaires in total, two from each show… But so many people won $250,000 and $500,000,’ Eddie added.

Eddie said he loved being the host because he got to meet people from all walks of life.
It comes after Sam Pang’s first foray into the world of late-night talk shows received a mixed reaction from fans.
The premiere episode of Sam Pang Tonight aired on Channel Ten on Monday, but not all viewers were impressed.
Fans were quick to give their appraisal of the show on social media, with many slamming the use of ‘canned laughter’.
In February, an insider told Daily Mail Australia the vision for the program is for Sam to put his own spin on a Graham Norton-esque style panel show.
‘Australia will finally have a proper “tonight show”,’ the source said.
‘It’s something that has really been missing in our free-to-air line up and Sam’s show will be quite different.’
