Veronica has opened up about why she and Dave grew close during the partner swap task.

There’s no doubt that Veronica Cloherty has received a ‘villain edit’ on this year’s season of Married At First Sight. Not only has the intruder bride solely been shown fighting with her partner Eliot Donovan without any supporting context or positive moments, but she’s also been portrayed as the reason behind Dave Thomas Hand and Jamie Marinos’ sudden relationship breakdown.

Veronica and Dave were recently paired together for the controversial partner swap task where they had to spend three days living in the same apartment. Many fans assumed something happened between them after they were caught giggling in bed together and Veronica admitted she wished she was matched with him in the experiment instead of Eliot.

While Dave quickly shut down any ‘cheating rumours’ and asserted to Yahoo Lifestyle that nothing happened between them, the Sydney-based actress has since revealed the heartbreaking truth about their connection.

“No, I definitely did not sleep with Dave,” she told The MAFS Funny Podcast on Thursday, explaining that she’s been celibate for two years now and never slept with Eliot either.

“The connection that everybody’s talking about – that has absolutely no context whatsoever – is actually related to our parents, who are both really sick. I think it’s a bit more publicly known what’s going on with Dave’s dad and his current treatment and things like that, but I actually came into this with a similar story and background.”

Veronica’s heartbreaking family situation

Dave had previously shared at his wedding that his father was in hospital battling cancer and was undergoing his fourth round of chemotherapy. Meanwhile, Veronica has revealed that her dad has had “multiple strokes” in the last year – but this was completely edited out of the show.

“Dave and I were actually able to sit down and talk about the loss of different parts of our fathers and how that was really taking a toll on us in the experiment. That was what that connection was, being able to confide in somebody who was going through a similar experience of grief and loss and just dealing with life,” she details.

“It’s not really present in my story [on TV] but it’s such a difficult thing in life in general, to be pretty much witnessing your parents moving into that stage of life where there is a really high chance that you’re going to lose them.”

Yahoo Lifestyle understands that Veronica is particularly upset this storyline has been “cut from TV” as talking about this on-camera with Dave was “very difficult for her”.

A source tells us: “Veronica has complained directly to Channel Nine about this and in response they’ve cut her off from doing any media.”
