Despite writing ‘stay’ at the last commitment ceremony, Married At First Sight’s Jacqui Burfoot surprised viewers in Tuesday night’s episode when she decided to go on a ‘date’ with her ‘back-up’ option Rory Lehmann. The remaining participants were given the opportunity to meet their ‘Plan B’ match during Final Test Week to see if the grass is greener on the other side before heading to Final Vows.

The pair immediately bonded over fitness and non-fiction books, with Jacqui admitting she thought Rory was “amazing”, “really good looking” and “an angel from heaven”. She was later caught telling him off-camera that he should give her his number if he wanted to stay in touch.

While many viewers accused Jacqui of being “deceitful” and “cheating” on her partner Ryan Donnelly, she’s since taken to social media to “clarify a few things”.

“No, Rory and I didn’t exchange numbers,” she shared. “First of all, the catch-up was just friendly. We were getting along, there was no potential marriage material there between either of us, and we were just laughing about stupid stuff and being idiots and being friends.”

Jacqui went on to assert that she and Rory haven’t stayed in contact or seen each other since filming the episode.

“I gave him my number in case he had any questions about the filming stuff or had any issues in Sydney, that was it. [But] we didn’t even text,” she continued. “I do not have his number, I’ve never spoken to this man ever since, and honestly, frankly, I didn’t care to.

“It was a day away from Ryan, it was a good break, and in all honesty, all I told Rory was that I was going to be out of the experiment in 10 days, and basically I couldn’t leave until Final Vows. So that was the context of those words. It was kind of like, I’m stuck here in the experiment and then I’ll be gone, but that’s essentially it. There was nothing flirty, nothing deceitful, and that’s it.”

Even though their storyline has already been spoiled, viewers have been left with plenty of questions about Jacqui and Ryan’s tumultuous relationship on the show. In particular, many people have wondered how they’ve remained in the experiment for so long – and why they stayed until Final Vows.

Jacqui recently shed some light on her MAFS experience in a tell-all interview with Yahoo Lifestyle and revealed that she actually tried to quit the show in an unseen moment.

“There was one point right towards the end of the experiment where I actually packed my bags,” she detailed. “I was bawling my eyes out and I just couldn’t stop crying. I’d been crying all night long until 3am and they kept coming in and telling me to sleep.

“I was just distraught. There were so many tears. I went through half a box of tissues and I said to them, ‘I can’t do this anymore’.”

While she was ready to quit the show, Jacqui claims that a producer encouraged her to stay in the experiment so she could “leave on a high”.

“My heart dropped because I was like, for f**k’s sake. After all I’ve been through, I can’t leave looking like I’m leaving because I’m not accepting Ryan. Like, this is f**ked,” she recalled. “It was just really tough for me. I felt like I was constantly being manipulated to stay because they obviously want you to stay. So it didn’t really ever seem like a viable option to just leave.”
