Carrie Bickmore has made a heartbreaking admission after she sparked widespread concern with a recent social media post.
Carrie Bickmore has admitted to being prescribed antidepressants after she alarmed fans by posting a photo of herself crying on a “terrible day”.
The 44-year-old former co-host of The Project made the candid admission on Tuesday on the Hit Network’s popular national drive radio show, Carrie & Tommy with Tommy Little.
It comes two weeks after she was visibly tearful and red-faced in the photo she posted on Instagram, in which she placed her hand over her mouth.
“I saw the photo and thought I don’t often post when I’m having a bad day,” she told Little.
“I thought your Instagram can become a showreel of all the happy stuff but I literally have sad days all the time.”
“I’m in a spot where I am finding stuff hard at the moment, and I deal with things in different ways.
Bickmore said she was seeing a psychologist and acknowledged she was privileged to have access to the professional for support, saying, “I know (it’s) not available to everybody.”
“I try and exercise because I feel that really helps my head but trying to do that when you’re feeling crap is really hard,” she said.
“I started taking antidepressants for the first time in my entire life, and not that I had anything against them, but I had been able to manage before, it got to the point where I realised I couldn’t do it on my own anymore, and I need a helping hand.”
She said the reaction to her candid photo reminded her “days suck for a lot of people.”
“My DMs have been full of people ranging from a bad day at work, a fight with a partner, all the way to tragic things,” she said.
“It’s a heartbreaking but a reminder you are not alone.”
In the photo caption, Bickmore said she sent the selfie to a friend who offered her support some months ago on a particularly bad day.
“Scrolling through my camera roll this morning, I found this photo I’d sent a friend a few months ago when I was having a terrible day, and she had checked up on me,” she wrote.
“I don’t often post on the days I feel crap (and there are a lot of them) because I usually go quiet.
“But I thought it was worth sharing. We all have sad days/weeks/months for so many varied reasons, and if you are having a sh** one, I hope tomorrow is a brighter day.”
“You are not alone.”
Australian singer Tones and I and The Bachelor star Anna Robards commented heart emojis on the post.

One more fan commended Bickmore for her “powerful” words.
“This is powerful Carrie. Well done. We all have those days, it’s good to show it’s not always rosy and shiny. This is life in all its shades,” they said.
The media personality has been candid about her mental health struggles, previously telling Little she has had anxiety and panic attacks since she was about 20 years old.
“People have an idea of what anxiety looks like, and I think it is very different for everybody, and you would often not know what is going on for somebody because people are very good at masking it,” she said, fighting back tears, last August.
“And I thought, hey, it might help if I shared some of the stuff that has happened to me for someone else to feel not so alone.
“It’s hard, actually, to describe what I felt. It was like shame, I think, (also) embarrassment. I don’t think I really fully understood what was going on in my own head. I think talking about it almost made me feel more anxious, so I just kept it in my own head.”
It comes after her husband Greg Lange died following a decade-long battle with brain cancer in 2010. They had a son, Oliver Lange, 17.
Bickmore also had two daughters, Evie, nine, and Adelaide, six, with her ex-partner Chris Walker.
She has said she started getting professional help for her mental health while pregnant with Evie and described its effect as life-changing.
In 2023, Bickmore announced she had split from Walker through Instagram.

“It’s with immense sadness that Chris and I have decided to separate,” she wrote.
“While this is a tough time, our focus is to concentrate on parenting, loving and supporting our three amazing children, Ollie, Evie and Addie, with everything we’ve got.
“They are doing great. We won’t be making any further comment at this stage.”
